A sensitively designed scheme, converting a Grade II Listed former Church into offices.

This project was the refurbishment of the Grade II Listed former Union Baptist Church into offices for a Housing Association. John Rylands laid the foundation stone, as a member of the Baptist movement in the UK. The Grade II listing covered the whole building, the main hall / lobby and nave worked well, with open atriums providing a feeling of space and light. The primary challenge was to create new offices to maximise footplate, whilst retaining the beauty and history of the Listed elements. The Housing Association were delighted with the project, creating approx. 7,400sqft of office space.

A carefully designed extension to the rear followed the arched style of the Church windows, sat a full storey over the existing car park, which helped meet the required footplate. Following the style of the original theme, the creation of huge arches were sympathetic to the existing Church design, whilst enabling the additional footplate. With this approach we were also able to maintain car parking and access for main services.
