Victoria House

A contemporary design for 100 state-of-the-art furnished studio apartments, in the centre of Liverpool.

One of the key design considerations for Victoria House was modernising the appearance of the existing 1960’s office building, bringing it more in line with the high quality of both the historic and contemporary architecture, within the immediate proximity. The design incorporates a high-quality modern fibre cement façade to the principal façade, in a stone colour using large format panels. The nature of the material means there is a natural texture and variation within the product, reflecting the natural materials of the surrounding buildings, but fixed in a modern pattern. The new cladding system incorporates non-combustible insulation to increase the overall thermal performance of the building.

All existing windows are replaced with modern Upvc windows in a dark grey colour. This increases the thermal properties of the building. The windows incorporate grills for mechanical ventilation and window blanking panels in the same colour of the window frames. The blanking panels emphasise the horizontal nature of the building. Where windows are serving an en-suite, obscured glassing is used to give privacy. The roof top extension is a dark lead grey colour, with profiled battens to add definition to the finish, giving the appearance of profiled zinc. These state-of-the-art, design-led furnished studios will be self-contained, giving residents the option to keep to themselves or embrace the wider amenities the development has to offer. These amenities include a gym and a resident’s lounge, with flexible working space.
